Ukrainian Armed Forces Officer on the Peacekeepers' Mission: What Mandate Should the Troops Receive.
According to FREEДOM:
International Peacekeeping Mission in Ukraine
The admission of foreign peacekeepers to Ukraine is possible only on the condition of agreement with all parties and a clear mandate aimed at deterring aggression from Russia. This position was expressed by the Armed Forces officer Serhiy Tsekhotsky during a broadcast on the FREEДOM TV channel, commenting on the prospects of an international mission along the ceasefire line.
'There must be international observers, international armed forces so that any attempt to violate it would be a threat of attack on the aggressor country. That is, there must be a reaction,' — said the Ukrainian Armed Forces officer.
Tsekhotsky emphasized the importance of involving not only politicians in decision-making about a potential peacekeeping mission, but also specialists — historians and lawyers.
'This must be a collective, well-considered decision, not populist speeches,' — emphasized the guest of the broadcast.
The officer also cautioned against illusions regarding long pauses that do not lead to the return of Ukrainian territories.
'Any respite will lead to Putin increasing forces, increasing the production of missiles and 'Shaheds' and will continue to do harm, taking into account the mistakes of 2022,' — noted Tsekhotsky.
Criticism of Concessions to the Aggressor
The officer criticized the method of concessions to the aggressor, comparing it to the legalization of violence.
'It's like a thug who wanted to kill someone, rob, rape — and was allowed to do so. This is wrong. He must be punished according to the law so that he wouldn't even want to do anything like that again,' — summarized Serhiy Tsekhotsky.
Serhiy Tsekhotsky's statements emphasize the importance of clear and well-founded decisions regarding international assistance to Ukraine. He calls for serious discussion and a comprehensive approach that considers not only political but also legal aspects. This issue becomes especially urgent against the backdrop of ongoing Russian aggression and the need to protect Ukrainian interests.
