The International Basketball Federation has extended the suspension of Russia until May 2025.


The International Basketball Federation (FIBA) continues the suspension of Russian and Belarusian clubs and national teams from tournaments. This information was published on the of the organization, reports 'Glavkom'.
FIBA plans to discuss the issue of the suspension of Russians and Belarusians at the next meeting of the organization's Central Council in May.
Continuation of the Suspension
The status of Russia and Belarus will be extended until the next meeting of FIBA's Central Council, which will take place in May 2025, the statement says.
Ban due to Russian Aggression
In 2022, FIBA suspended the national teams of Russia and Belarus from participating in competitions due to Russian aggression against Ukraine. The ban also applies to the participation of clubs in competitions.
Nominations in the Women's EuroLeague
The list of nominees for the title of the best player of the season in the Women's EuroLeague includes Alina Yagupova, the captain of the Ukrainian women's national team and player of the Spanish club Valencia.
FIBA has announced five nominations based on the tournament results. In addition to the most valuable player of the season, spectators can vote for the symbolic team, the best defensive player, young basketball player, and coach of the year.

Alina Yagupova made it to three out of five nominations. She is one of ten candidates for the title of the best player of the season, having twice been the MVP of the season in 2020 and 2021.
Additionally, Yagupova is also a candidate for inclusion in the symbolic team of the season and for the title of the best defensive player.

The winners will be determined based on the votes of the Women's EuroLeague coaches, team captains, media, and spectators.
This season, Yagupova plays on the court for nearly 30 minutes, scoring about 12 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 assists.
Participation in the EuroLeague Final Six
Together with her team 'Valencia', Alina Yagupova will play in the EuroLeague Final Six from April 9-13 in Zaragoza. In the regular championship, their team finished second and then defeated the winner of another group - the Turkish club Mersin, allowing them to start directly from the semifinals.
