Language patrol in Ivano-Frankivsk: mayor tells who will monitor the residents

On October 28, the first language inspectors will begin to work in Ivano-Frankivsk. This was announced by the city mayor Ruslan Marciniv, who also explained who exactly among the citizens will perform this task.

At a meeting with language volunteer inspectors, which took place on October 24, the mayor stated: "If you still haven’t switched to the Ukrainian language and communicate in the language of the enemy - start now! Our language volunteers already know what to do!"

Marciniv emphasized that there is no longer any Moscow church in the city of Ivano-Frankivsk and free Ukrainian language courses are being held. He added: "We must be a city where the Ukrainian language is spoken. A city that supports the patriots of its country."

The mayor noted that the number of refugees in the city is increasing, but they are Ukrainians and should know the language of their country.

Recently, the city mayor also mentioned that among the volunteers who have volunteered to patrol the city, many are young people. A total of 40 people expressed a desire to become language inspectors. Marciniv noted: "I expected them to be mainly elderly people, but there are many young progressive people. Interestingly, a third of them are internally displaced persons."

Language inspectors will not punish for using the Russian language. Instead, they will promote Ukrainian language courses, distribute leaflets, monitor compliance with language legislation, and participate in educational activities.

Marciniv added: "We have developed many events for the winter period involving writers and theaters."

It is worth recalling that at the beginning of September, the mayor of Ivano-Frankivsk announced the launch of language inspectors. This was an attempt by the city to fight the spread of the Russian language.

Language Ombudsman Taras Kremin noted that gentle Ukrainization is gradually changing to an assertive one.
