Women who turn 18 will now be included for the first time in the military draft lottery system in Denmark. This decision was made by the Danish parliament in June in response to the overall increase in defense spending by NATO member countries and Russia's aggression in Ukraine.
Colonel Kenneth Strøm, head of the draft program, explained that the new decision contributes to NATO’s collective deterrence and enhances the combat capability of the army. According to the new rules, the number of conscripts will increase to 6500 per year by 2033, compared to 4700 in 2024.
