Protests in Foça are part of a campaign to protect public spaces across the country. The organizers of the actions do not plan to back down until their demands are met. The local police observed the events but did not intervene as the protests were peaceful.

We see beaches all over Turkey gradually being privatized, and this is unacceptable. The shores belong to the people, and we will fight for their return. - said Ayşe Demir, an environmental activist.

Turkey also plans to put Giresun Island back on the country's tourist map. This island is the only inhabitable island in the Eastern Black Sea region.
