The National Bank begins to withdraw banknotes from circulation in a few years: which bills.
From November 1, 2024, the process of withdrawing banknotes with denominations of 50 and 200 hryvnias from the 2003-2007 samples will begin.
This was reported by the press service of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), writes Tsensor.
Old banknotes will gradually be replaced by new ones, issued from 2014 and later. The NBU notes that citizens do not need to take any additional actions to exchange banknotes.
"The replacement of banknotes with denominations of 50 and 200 hryvnias of the old sample with new ones, with an improved security system, will not affect citizens' cash transactions," the National Bank emphasizes.
Banknotes of the old sample will remain valid means of payment. Citizens can continue to use them for transactions without restrictions. However, gradually these banknotes will disappear from circulation.
From November 1, 2024, banks will stop issuing old banknotes. Also, the National Bank will no longer supply them to banks and companies involved in cash processing.
When obsolete banknotes enter banks, they will be withdrawn and transferred to the National Bank for counting and disposal.
This step is part of the NBU's strategy to update the hryvnia banknote and coin series.
Previously, from August 1, the process of withdrawing banknotes with a denomination of 500 hryvnias from the 2003-2007 samples began. The withdrawal of outdated banknotes of other denominations has also started.
The withdrawal of banknotes with denominations of 50 and 200 hryvnias of the old sample will complete the update of currency notes in Ukraine. Now the hryvnia will have only modern banknotes with an improved counterfeit protection system.
