According to The Sun: Amid news of the US OPEN, tennis star Naomi Osaka shared her battle with postpartum depression.
The 27-year-old athlete gave birth to her daughter Shai, and she opened up to the public about her struggles in her recently released documentary.
“Honestly, I had very severe postpartum depression and I didn't really know how to cope with it,” she said.
The Japanese athlete became a mother in 2023. She co-parents the child with her former partner and rapper Cordae.
Osaka admitted that she felt like a shell of herself during this period and lost her sense of self.
Now, Naomi is preparing for a match against Greet Minnen at the US Open.
She has Grand Slam victories in 2020 and 2018, as well as wins at the Australia Open in 2019 and 2021.
Osaka withdrew from the French Open in 2021 due to “huge waves of anxiety.”
“Time goes on and I feel like I need to play better. I hate letting people down,” she said.
It was very disappointing for her to feel weaker after such a long break from the court.
After successful performances and victories in major tournaments, Naomi Osaka decided to share her public story about her struggle with postpartum depression.
