Defenders of Mariupol and Ukrainian prisoners of war who have already received court sentences in Russia are considered difficult cases for exchange. This was reported by Dmytro Lubinets, the Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine for Human Rights. According to him, part of these prisoners of war has been successfully returned, and he hopes for a continuation of this positive trend. Ukraine is doing everything possible for this. In addition, Lubinets hopes for additional steps from the UN to put pressure on Russia.

The Commissioner also commented on the case of Ukrainian soldiers who fell into Russian captivity in the Kursk region. He noted that Ukraine adheres to international humanitarian law and all exchange processes are being monitored. The initiation of criminal proceedings against prisoners of war is a violation of international humanitarian law and the Geneva Conventions by Russia. These investigations violate the conventions themselves, which prohibit the initiation of criminal proceedings against servicemen and prisoners of war for participating in hostilities. Lubinets is concerned that the Russians do not comply with these conventions.

Let us recall that Ukraine received lists of prisoners of war from Russia on November 8. It is also known that through Qatar, Ukraine was able to obtain lists of missing servicemen and letters from prisoners of war to their relatives. In order to increase the exchange fund, Ukrainian captives plan to use soldiers from North Korea.
