Not Santorini, but better: where in Italy to find unforgettable views and atmosphere.
Many travelers spend their vacation on the island of Santorini, which is very popular among tourists.
However, there is a less known, but no less attractive alternative, written about by Express.
Tourism expert, Steven Purdham, suggests replacing Santorini with the less known and no less beautiful southern Italian province of Apulia, which has a similar climate.
"In Italy, Apulia is less visited than other Italian coastlines, but it still remains impressive," Steven stated.
Apulia, located in the sunny southern region of Italy, has one of the largest national parks in the country. Despite the fact that this region is less known compared to Sardinia, Sicily, and the Amalfi Coast, there is much to explore.
"Moreover, archaeological ruins, Baroque churches, and traditional Italian villages create the perfect blend of history, similar to what you would find in Santorini," Steven added.
Additionally, Steven praises the natural landscape of Apulia.
"If you visit the coast of Apulia, you will see some of the best vineyards in the country. Moreover, the cuisine served in the region's restaurants is delicious and unique," he said.
The town of Alberobello with its characteristic houses can challenge Santorini and is definitely worth a visit.
Bari, a bustling port city, offers some of the best seafood in the region, which can be tasted in local cafes. Beach lovers should visit the seaside town of Polignano a Mare with its cove situated among limestone cliffs.
Family tourists are recommended to visit the Sentiero Airone natural reserve, where you can see flamingos, and the charming caves in Castellana Grotte.
If you're looking for a place that combines stunning nature, rich history, and culture, then the Greek regions of Santorini and Thessaly should be at the top of your list.
Santorini with its picturesque whitewashed buildings set atop cliffs overlooking the Aegean Sea is a must-visit for every traveler. The volcanic origin of the island has created unique beaches with black and red sand, and its ancient ruins and charming villages allow you to immerse yourself in the rich history of Greece.
