Nottingham Forest plans to sack Nuno: Brendan Rodgers is the main candidate.
Nottingham Forest's plan regarding the head coach change
According to The Sun: Nottingham Forest plans to replace Nuno Espírito Santo with Brendan Rodgers, and this idea has gained support among the management.
On Saturday, it became known that the club's owner Evangelos Marinakis highly values Rodgers, who currently leads Celtic.
Brendan Rodgers watches his team lose in the Champions League last night AlamyYesterday, Celtic unexpectedly lost to the Kazakh club Kairat Almaty in the Champions League, exiting the tournament.
Now, after this setback, the possibility of Rodgers moving to Forest looks more realistic.
Interest in Rodgers emerged after Espírito Santo's relationship with Marinakis became strained. The Portuguese expressed concern over the slow progress of transfers this summer.
Additionally, it is known that former Arsenal director and current global head of football at City Ground, Edu Gaspar, also had a conflict with Espírito Santo on the same topic.
Marinakis has prepared a list of potential candidates for the head coach position, including Marco Silva, Ange Postecoglou, and José Mourinho.
However, Rodgers is the clear favorite among these candidates.
Celtic, currently leading the Scottish Premier League, also seeks to retain Rodgers as the club aims to win a fifth consecutive title.
After his move from Celtic to Leicester in 2019, Rodgers assured that he does not plan to leave the team again:
“Listen, I have said from day one, and there are no hidden messages here. I said I would stay here for three years. I am here for three years.”
Nuno, who led Forest to their first European campaign since the 1995-96 season, responded to questions about a possible resignation:
“This is the nature of football. There are things I cannot control. What I mean is that my concern is about the squad.”
“These guys achieved something fantastic last season. If we as a club do not help them in quantity, quality, and talent, everything can disappear.”
It should be noted that Nottingham Forest recently signed new players: Douglas Luiz, Kalimuendo-Muing, James McAtee, Omar Hutchinson, Dan N'Doy, Jaira Kunya, and Igor Jesus.
The situation may develop in the coming days as a decision regarding a coaching change may be made soon, considering the team’s results and the relationship between the management and the coach. If Rodgers decides to move, it could be a significant step for both clubs.
