Scammers Use a New Scheme to Steal Personal Data in Viber
Representatives of the Center for Strategic Communications and Information Security reported on the spread of a new type of fraud in Viber related to the theft of users' personal data. Scammers attempt to impersonate employees of well-known services or companies and then demand users provide an SMS code to confirm registration, account or activation of a new mobile tariff plan.
This SMS code activates the Viber account on a new device, and the scammer gains control over the user's account
To avoid falling under the influence of scammers and to protect your data, you should follow these recommendations:
- Do not share activation codes with anyone.
- Block suspicious messages.
- Limit contacts with unknown users.
- Use privacy settings to protect accounts.
