Ukraine Launches Serial Production of Flamingo Missiles: What is Known About the New Weapon

According to FREEДOM:

Mass Production of 'Flamingo' Missiles in Ukraine

Ukrainian and international media have reported the start of serial production of Ukrainian cruise missiles 'Flamingo', which can reach ranges of up to 3000 km. These FP-5 missiles from Milanion Group exceed American Tomahawks in specifications by two times and are intended for mass production.

The warhead of the missile weighs 1150 kilograms, allowing it to strike targets at significant depths previously inaccessible to Ukrainian forces. Additionally, 'Flamingo' missiles are equipped with protection against Russian electronic warfare systems.

Journalists from the Associated Press received the first images of the new Ukrainian 'Flamingo' missile, shot under conditions where the location of the object was not disclosed.

The Technical Director of Fire Point, Iryna Terekh, discussed the development: 'The total maximum takeoff weight of the missile is six tons. It is launched using solid rocket fuel and then flies with the help of a turbojet engine of our own production, as well as a solid propellant booster, which is also our own development.'

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, confirmed the successful tests of the new missile:

'There were successful tests of this missile. And so far, this missile is the most successful we have — it flies 3000 kilometers, which is important. I believe that we can't talk much about this until we have the opportunity to use a hundred missiles.'

According to him, by the end of the year, Ukraine will receive more such missiles, and by January-February 2026, mass production is scheduled to begin.

In his address for Independence Day, Zelensky also reminded that Russian strikes on cities, schools, and hospitals do not go unanswered:

'How many times have we proposed a ceasefire? How many times have we said: 'We want silence, we want peace'? But we seek decent and comprehensive peace and therefore rely on the strength of the world. And that is why we do not trust the Russian doves of peace too much, and that is why we will rely on Ukrainian 'Flamingos'.

The President emphasized that Ukraine will no longer be forced into 'compromises', and it is the Ukrainians who will decide their future.

'Ukraine, which can realistically gather and unite world leaders in just one day. Ukraine, with which America and the whole world want to jointly produce drones. Ukraine, which has restored the unity of Europe and the USA and is now the cornerstone of this alliance. Ukraine, which stands its ground and can stand up for itself. Therefore, Ukraine is heard, Ukraine is counted, and Ukraine is listened to. Its place is at the table'.

Features of the New 'Flamingo' Missile

What does the new Ukrainian 'Flamingo' missile represent and how does it outperform its counterparts? What range and power capabilities of the warhead open new prospects for Ukraine? Why is the launch of mass production of 'Flamingo' significant not only from a military but also from a political perspective? These questions were discussed by experts on the FREEДОМ channel:

  • Dmytro Snehiriev, military-political observer;
  • Valeriy Romanenko, aviation expert, senior researcher at the State Aviation Museum named after Antonov;
  • Serhiy Bratchuk, spokesman for the Ukrainian Volunteer Army;
  • Ihor Romanenko, founder of the charitable foundation 'Let's Close the Sky of Ukraine', Lieutenant General.

DMYTRIO SNEHIREV: “Flamingo” Gives the Ukrainian Leadership Freedom of Action

— The tactical and technical characteristics of Tomahawk: range - 1600 km, and the warhead - 450 kg, that is twice less than our counterpart. In addition, other characteristics are also important, in particular, the cruising speed of the Ukrainian missile — around 900 km/h, as well as the presence of stable satellite navigation.

The Ukrainian political and military leadership will no longer have to coordinate the nature of legitimate military targets on the territory of the occupying country.

In the zone of potential strikes are all key enterprises of the Russian defense industry and oil refining sector. Interestingly, information about the Ukrainian development appeared precisely during the meeting of the President of Ukraine with the American President.

VALERII ROMANENKO: After the Strike, “Flamingo” Will Leave Practically Nothing from the Bunker in Russia

— If our drones with a combat load of 20–50 kg cause noticeable damage, then when hitting with a missile with a warhead of 1000 kg, there will be simply nothing to repair.

The Ukrainian designers have taken a path whereby, given the difficulties with mass missile launches, after hitting one or two missiles, it will no longer be necessary to finish off the target.

Thanks to the range, the missiles can hit maneuvering targets, choosing routes that bypass the positions of Russian anti-aircraft missile systems. At a distance of 1500–2000 km, 90% of the Russian defense industry enterprises fall into the strike zone.

This is already a global war. The 'Flamingo' missile will most likely be assembled in Ukraine using a large-unit assembly scheme.

For example, if 'Shahed' drones are getting in the way, several missiles can be launched to destroy the enterprise in Yelabuga, then target missiles at Izhevsk.

At present, there are no analogs in Russia... 'Iskander-K' has a lower range, advertised as 2500 kilometers.

Our missile has a simplified design, allowing to adjust the range, balancing between it and the amount of explosives on board.

SERHIY BRATCHUK: Ukrainian Missiles Must be Logistically inside the Russian Federation

— The first ones to declare the use of new weapons should be the Russians, so that it would hurt them and hit very accurately.

Three thousand kilometers — it cannot fail to impress.

However, we are still talking about interim results. There needs to be an accumulation of the right amount of missiles, and only then can we talk about successful strikes.

This will be painful and terrifying for the Russians; I’m primarily talking about their infrastructure.

The targets should be energy and railway infrastructure, as if problems begin there, it will be very difficult for the Russians.

IHOR ROMANENKO: How “Flamingo” Will Bypass Russian Air Defense

— The prototype missile 'Flamingo' was demonstrated at the exhibition this year. Its speed is subsonic — it needs to fly 3000 km in 4 hours.

How 'Flamingo' will overcome the Russian Air Defense remains secret.

However, to achieve maximum destruction of a specific Russian military object, several dozen such missiles will be needed.

According to preliminary estimates, when we pick up speed, we will be able to produce up to 50 such missiles a month.

Thus, Ukrainian 'Flamingo' missiles can significantly change the course of combat operations and affect the situation at the front.
