Over 80 Iranian Targets Hit in Fresh US Strikes; EU Calls Emergency Meeting.
Rising Tensions Between Washington and Tehran
According to UATV: The ongoing exchange of military strikes between the United States and Iran is complicating efforts to negotiate a ceasefire. Iran’s attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait have been condemned as unacceptable. EU High Representative Kaja Kallas has announced a meeting of EU foreign ministers with Gulf states, scheduled for July 13.
On the night of July 8, U.S. forces launched a new wave of strikes against Iran, hitting more than 80 military sites. The operation was a direct response to Iranian aggression, including attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. As Kallas stated,
“Freedom of navigation must remain unhindered,”underscoring the need to secure this strategic waterway.
Escalation in the Region
Iran’s strikes on ships in the Strait of Hormuz violate Tehran’s commitment to keep the passage open, further inflaming regional tensions. The upcoming meeting between EU foreign ministers and Gulf nations could prove crucial in de-escalating the crisis and exploring avenues for a peaceful resolution.
The region remains on edge due to ongoing armed clashes and hostile actions from both sides. The EU-Gulf ministerial meeting may serve as a key step toward restoring diplomatic ties and stability, as the standoff between the U.S. and Iran threatens vital trade routes and the global economy. Successful dialogue could open the door to a peaceful settlement and reduce the risk of further military escalation.
