Pentagon fears Israel is close to starting a ground war in Lebanon — WSJ.
Terrifying explosions of pagers and other electronic devices used by militants in Lebanon seriously concern the Pentagon regarding a possible ground war between Israel and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin informed top Pentagon officials on a meeting on September 16 of his fears of a possible Israeli offensive after months of rocket attacks by Hezbollah, which is backed by Iran.

According to the source, Israeli military recently transferred a division of special forces and paratroopers from the south to the north of the country after they were used in Gaza. The division comprises thousands of soldiers.
US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby stated that there is still a possibility for a diplomatic resolution of the crisis, rather than war.
