Perrie Edwards on losing a child at 24 weeks: how the artist returns to the stage.
According to The Sun: Perrie Edwards, 32, returned to the stage in her hometown of Newcastle at the Come Together festival. She looked incredible in a black western suit adorned with silver fringes, singing her songs.
The Little Mix singer is preparing to release a new single and her debut solo album. Recently, she shared her experiences of two pregnancy losses, the last of which she described as 'the worst day of my life.'
“It's strange because the first time it happened, I think because it was so early, I just thought, 'Oh, that's tough.'” - Perrie Edwards
Perrie experienced her first miscarriage before the birth of her son, Axel, in 2021, and the second occurred less than a year after Axel was born. She referred to Axel as her 'rainbow baby,' a term for a child born after a miscarriage.
The second miscarriage happened at 24 weeks when Perrie had already started planning the nursery. She shared that it was very difficult when doctors informed them that the baby had no heartbeat.
Perrie has been engaged to Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain since 2022, the same year Little Mix went on hiatus. The group also included Leigh-Anne Pinnock, Jesy Nelson, and Jade Thirlwall.
What is a miscarriage and why do pregnancies end unsuccessfully?
A miscarriage is the loss of an unborn child within the first 24 weeks of pregnancy and is quite common. Approximately one in five pregnancies ends in miscarriage, most of which are due to random genetic defects in the embryo.
- Most women can successfully go on to have healthy children in the future.
- Avoiding smoking, alcohol, and drugs during pregnancy can reduce the risk of miscarriage.
- Other common causes of unsuccessful pregnancies include ectopic and molar pregnancies.
An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fertilized egg implants outside the uterus, usually in the fallopian tube, while a molar pregnancy is a rare condition where the fertilized egg and/or placenta do not develop properly.
A baby that dies after 24 weeks is considered stillborn.
