Olympic champion in gymnastics Akinori Nakayama has died
83-year-old Japanese athlete Akinori Nakayama, who became an Olympic champion in gymnastics six times, has passed away. This was reported by the Japan Gymnastics Association.
According to the report, Nakayama's cause of death was stomach cancer.
In 1968 in Mexico City, he won four gold medals at the Olympic Games (rings, parallel bars, horizontal bar, team all-around). In 1972, he became an Olympic champion twice more (rings, team) in Munich. He also has two silver and two bronze Olympic medals.
Nakayama also won 12 medals at the World Championships, including seven gold medals. One of the moves in artistic gymnastics named 'Nakayama' was named in his honor.
In 2005, Nakayama was inducted into the International Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
European football champion Doris Fitschen has died
At the age of 57, German footballer Doris Fitschen, who was a four-Time European champion, has passed away. The cause of her death was a long and serious illness.
Secretary General of the German Football Association Heike Ulrich said that Fitschen always looked at things and life positively and was an example for many.
Fitschen played 144 matches for the German national team and was recognized as the best player of the European Championship in 1989. She also won a bronze medal at the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.
Former Dynamo football player and coach Sergey Zhuravlyov has died
At the age of 66, former Dynamo football player and coach of the youth team of Dynamo Sergey Zhuravlyov has passed away.
Zhuravlyov was an important player for Valery Lobanovsky's team in the early 1980s, winning two championships and the USSR Cup. He was also part of the youth national team that became the European champion in 1980.
After finishing his playing career, Zhuravlyov became a coach of the youth team of Dynamo. Many of his protégés became the most talented players in domestic football and play for Ukrainian and foreign clubs.
