Kangaroo escapes in the Czech Republic on the eve of Christmas: how a 45-minute capture took place.
According to ТСН: In the Czech village of Hustěnovice, located in the Zlín Region, a Christmas gift for children unexpectedly turned into a real adventure for the entire community. A kangaroo named Skip escaped from a private yard on the eve of Christmas.
Firefighters were called in the morning on Friday. According to David Martín, a spokesperson for the Zlín Fire Service, the animal ran onto the road towards Old Town and could pose a threat to traffic safety. A veterinarian was also involved in the operation.
Capture of the kangaroo
Catching the fugitive turned out to be no easy task. The first attempt to catch the kangaroo with a net was unsuccessful, but during the second attempt, rescuers managed to achieve their goal. The entire capture process took about 45 minutes, after which Skip was returned to his owners.
While the search was ongoing, the owners reached out for help via social media. The municipality also aided in the search, assuring residents that the kangaroo, standing about 80 centimeters tall and weighing 18 kilograms, was non-aggressive and very timid.
Similar cases
Similar incidents in the Czech Republic are not uncommon. Recently, another kangaroo was searched for in the Mělník area for nearly two and a half months, and an animal from a private mini-zoo in Ostrava was found after a whole year. In that case, the escape was concluded in an original way – the kangaroo was lured into a pen with cookies.
The story of the kangaroo in Hustěnovice, in the context of similar cases, illustrates how animals can become unexpected participants in community life. It reminds us that even in everyday situations, such as a holiday, unforgettable moments and adventures can arise. Whether this is the end of the story about Skip or just the beginning of new adventures for the kangaroo and its owners – time will tell.
