Podolyak on a world without pressure on Russia: why Ukraine will not receive an agreement.
According to ТСН: The pressure on Russia must continue, as this is a necessary condition for achieving a peace agreement that Ukraine hopes for.
This opinion was expressed by the advisor to the President's Office, Mykhailo Podolyak, in an interview.
“Regarding the peace agreement, unfortunately, it is unlikely to happen in the form we would like if there is no pressure on Russia. In other words, pressure must be applied in any case — sanctions, military aid,” Podolyak said.
Podolyak also believes that Ukraine's subjectivity has significantly increased compared to last year.
According to information from Bloomberg, Russia intends to demand significant changes to the 20-point peace plan developed jointly by Ukraine and the United States.
In Moscow, this document is viewed merely as a starting point for further negotiations, believing that the plan does not cover many important aspects for Russia and remains unanswered on key questions.
The source also noted that in the Kremlin, this plan is considered “a rather typical Ukrainian variant,” but they intend to study it “with a cool head.”
Bloomberg adds that Russia is unlikely to completely dismiss the proposal, as it does not want to spoil relations with U.S. President Donald Trump.
What is known about the negotiations
Recently, negotiations took place in the United States involving special envoy of Vladimir Putin, Kirill Dmitriev, U.S. President's special representative Steve Witkoff, and Jared Kushner, Donald Trump's son-in-law. The main theme was the possible end of the war in Ukraine.
The Ukrainian side also held parallel talks in Florida with Witkoff and Kushner.
Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, Rustem Umerov, reported that during the meetings, attention was focused on four key areas:
further elaboration of the Ukrainian 20-point peace plan;
agreement on approaches to a multilateral framework agreement on security guarantees;
discussion of bilateral security guarantees from the United States;
development of an economic recovery and development plan for Ukraine.
At this moment, diplomatic efforts continue, as both sides seek to find a compromise that would allow for the restoration of peace. Importantly, Ukraine maintains its position and actively interacts with international partners to achieve positive results.
Observers note that further negotiations could significantly influence the course of the conflict and Ukraine's role on the international stage.
