In his analytical article for The Atlantic, Professor Phillips Payson O'Brien criticized the indecisive policy of the Biden administration regarding support for Ukraine and analyzed Putin's approach to waging war.

According to the expert, since the start of the full-scale invasion in February 2022, the Biden administration has been constantly hesitating about providing Ukraine with advanced weaponry. Although the US eventually agreed to provide the requested equipment - from HIMARS to Abrams tanks - these delays cost Ukraine valuable opportunities to strike at the Russian military machine.

O'Brien draws a parallel with a classic cartoon by Gary Larson, where a man tortures himself for a long Time pondering what a woman thinks of him, while her thoughts are completely different. Similarly, the US, in the analyst's view, is excessively concerned with how Russia might react to each of their steps.

"Putin does not think in a complicated manner. He regularly and quickly escalates the situation when he believes it will give him a strategic advantage," the expert emphasizes.

The author also notes that nearly three years into the conflict, it is still unclear what the US truly wants - a victory for Ukraine or to prevent Russia's collapse. Recently, Zelensky presented Washington with a well-thought-out victory plan, involving the use of longer-range American weapons to strike Russian targets, similar to how Russia regularly uses Iranian weapons against Ukraine. However, the Biden administration seems to be postponing this issue for its successor.

"At some point, Americans need to realize that Putin is not thinking about what the US thinks of him - he is relentlessly trying to win his war," O'Brien concludes, calling on the US to respond to North Korea's involvement in the only correct way - by providing Ukraine with the means to defeat the Russian invasion.
