National Police of Ukraine Launches Operation 'Aesculapius'

According to Espreso.tv: Ukraine's National Police have initiated a sweeping investigation called Operation 'Aesculapius,' targeting public officials' asset declarations for inaccuracies. This crackdown has already uncovered UAH 200 million in unreported assets. The operation is being carried out by the National Police's Department of Strategic Investigations, focusing on financial transparency and accountability among state employees.

Key Findings and Actions

As part of the operation, law enforcement conducted 58 searches across 16 regions of Ukraine. Discrepancies between declared assets and actual holdings range from UAH 2 million to UAH 11 million per case. The total value of false information in declarations has reached UAH 200 million. Seized assets include vehicles such as a 2025 Mercedes-Benz GLE 300D, with a market value exceeding $100,000. Additionally, documents worth between UAH 600,000 and over UAH 1 million were confiscated.

Operation 'Aesculapius' also involves filing administrative reports. To date, over 230 protocols have been issued for administrative violations under Article 172-6 of the Ukrainian Code. A notable incident linked to illegal activities occurred on June 4 in the Lviv region, where a former deputy and his businessman son were detained on suspicion of organizing the illegal departure of military conscripts. They allegedly promised to arrange a fake Group III disability status for $15,000.

Operation 'Aesculapius' underscores the National Police of Ukraine's efforts to combat corruption and ensure transparency in officials' financial affairs.

This initiative aims to enhance integrity and accountability among public servants, a crucial step toward rebuilding citizen trust in state institutions. Such operations may become routine given Ukraine's serious challenges in fighting corruption, especially under martial law and economic strain.
