Poland to Extend Belarus Border Zone Entry Ban for Another 90 Days.
Restricted Access Zone Along the Belarusian Border
According to UATV: Poland is set to extend its temporary ban on entering the border zone with Belarus for an additional three months, citing continued migratory pressure. According to an official statement, the new restriction period will commence on March 5 and last for 90 days. The current measures are in effect until March 4. This policy is part of Poland's ongoing response to a migrant crisis that has seen thousands attempt to cross from Belarus into the European Union.
The restricted zone covers a border stretch exceeding 78 kilometers (48 miles). Notably, on February 17, Polish authorities reported the appearance of objects from the Belarusian side, which provided grounds for extending the security measures. Polish officials continue to implement actions to control the border situation and ensure national security.
Migration Policy Context
The extension of the border zone prohibition underscores the persistent migration pressure facing Poland. The country's authorities affirm their readiness to defend national interests and security by responding to potential threats from the neighboring state. These measures also fit within the broader context of European migration policy, which requires a balanced approach to border management and the protection of territorial integrity. The situation remains a point of significant tension between the EU and the government of Alexander Lukashenko in Belarus.
