Poland strengthens measures on deporting foreigners who broke the law, including Ukrainians.

The Polish Border Guard decided to adopt a new policy on deporting foreigners convicted of offenses. According to this policy, foreigners will be deported to their home countries after serving their prison sentences. This is reported by the local publication inPoland.

«Such persons will be banned from entering the Schengen countries», – writes the publication.

Deportation will occur for individuals who, for example, illegally crossed the border or drove a vehicle under the influence of alcohol. They will be put on planes to their home countries or sent to guarded centers for foreigners for further deportation.

The cooperation between the border service and correctional facilities aids the rapid deportation of foreigners. Prison staff send border guards information about each foreigner whose prison term is ending. This practice of cooperation has long existed, but now border guards have become more actively involved with foreign offenders.

People threatening state security, convicted of criminal activity, or those who repeatedly violated the law will be deported. They will be banned from entering the Schengen zone for 10 years.

Last year, more than 17,000 crimes were committed by foreigners in Poland. This is 2,500 more than in 2022.

Changes in the Polish labor market

Ukrainians are still the largest group of foreign workers in the Polish labor market. However, their position is increasingly being taken over by workers from other countries. In recent years, the greatest increase in employment has been observed among Colombians, Nepalese, and Argentinians. Workers from Asia and South America are filling the gaps in sectors such as industrial production, agriculture, and construction, which were previously predominantly held by Ukrainians.
