Polish Authorities Detain 91 Ukrainians in Major Crackdown on Illegal Migration.
Foreign Nationals Detained in Poland
According to Novyny.live: In a nationwide operation targeting illegal migration, Polish authorities have detained 140 foreign nationals. Among those detained, 91 are citizens of Ukraine. The extensive operation involved nearly 1,800 checks on the legal status of foreigners residing in the country.
The operation also led to the detention of citizens from several other nations, including:
- 14 citizens of Georgia,
- 8 from Belarus,
- 3 from Moldova,
- and 2 from Russia.
Separately, seven individuals were apprehended based on European Arrest Warrants and Interpol Red Notices. As part of this campaign, authorities initiated over 110 administrative proceedings for the deportation of foreign citizens.
“Close to 1,800 checks and nearly 140 detentions across Poland,” stated Marcin Kierwiński.
This crackdown highlights the active efforts of Polish law enforcement to combat illegal migration and enforce residency laws. Poland, a key transit and destination country within the EU, has recently intensified border controls and internal enforcement.
Implications for Poland's International Image
The scale of this operation signals the growing priority Polish authorities place on addressing illegal migration and their willingness to take decisive action. The high number of detained Ukrainians may be linked to the ongoing economic and social challenges in Ukraine, which drive many to seek opportunities abroad. Such enforcement actions could potentially affect Poland's image as a host nation for migrants and influence its diplomatic relations with neighboring countries, particularly at a time of regional instability.
