Polish fighters intercepted a Russian reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea.
Intercepting the Russian Aircraft
According to ТСН: On the day before Christmas, December 24, Polish fighters intercepted and escorted a Russian reconnaissance aircraft over the Baltic Sea.
According to the Operational Command of the Armed Forces of Poland, the aircraft was over international waters, near the borders of Polish airspace.
“Despite the holiday period, last night was intense for the air defense services of Poland,”
the command's statement published on X noted.
Additionally, Polish radar systems detected objects that penetrated Poland's airspace from Belarus. After analysis, these objects were likely found to be smuggled balloons carried by the wind. All objects were continuously monitored by radar.
For safety, part of the airspace over the Podlaskie region in eastern Poland was temporarily closed to civil air traffic.
Military officials report that they maintain contact with other services and have found no threats to the security of Polish airspace.
NATO Monitoring
On December 25, NATO countries lifted their fighters to monitor and escort Russian strategic nuclear bombers Tu-95MS, which were conducting a prolonged flight over neutral waters near the northern territories of the United Kingdom and Norway.
These events indicate increasing tension in the region, especially against the backdrop of intensified military actions and maneuvers among NATO countries. It is important that air forces continue to monitor the airspace, as this not only ensures national security but also stability in the region. At the same time, civilians can feel safe as the military commits to always respond to potential threats.
