The legendary Ukrainian energy expert Semen Potashnyk has passed away.
Today, January 20, the outstanding energy expert Semen Potashnyk has passed away. He was the head of the Public Council at the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine for 75 years. He had a significant impact on the development of Ukrainian energy and was a pioneer of new standards in this field.
Potashnyk actively constructed hydropower plants in Ukraine, including the Kyiv HPP and the Kyiv Pumped Storage Power Plant. Also, thanks to his leadership, the hydro unit of the Dniester Pumped Storage Power Plant was put into operation, and work began on the Tashlytska Pumped Storage Power Plant.
Awards and Honors:
- 1996 - Honored Energy Expert of Ukraine.
- 2000 - Honorary Energy Expert of Ukraine.
- 2002 - Hero of Ukraine awarded the Order of the State.
- 2003 - Laureate of the award of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences receiving the Golden Medal of Platon.
- 2005 - Laureate of the State Prize of Ukraine in the field of science and technology.
- Cavalier of the Order of 'For Merit' of I, II, III degree in 2017, 2009, and 2000.
Semen Potashnyk was an outstanding specialist and leader; his work was recognized not only in Ukraine but also beyond its borders. He was awarded various state, professional, and international awards.
