According to a new survey, the support level for UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has dropped to an extremely low level due to controversies related to the bill on deporting migrants to Rwanda. According to a YouGov study, only 21% of those surveyed have a positive opinion of him, while 70% expressed a negative attitude. Sunak's favorability rating stood at -49, the lowest and comparable to the rating of former Prime Minister Boris Johnson when he resigned.

The survey also showed that the Conservative Party's favorability rating stood at -49. Only 20% of those surveyed spoke positively about the party, while 69% had a negative opinion. The Labour Party and its leader Keir Starmer, although having a slightly reduced rating, still show better results. Starmer's favorability rating is -22, and the party's rating is -14.

Thus, neither any of the politicians nor any of the parties have an unequivocally positive favorability rating.

Sunak's and his party's popularity has suffered due to the bill on deporting illegal immigrants to Rwanda, which was passed by the House of Commons. According to this bill, sending asylum seekers in the UK to Rwanda is legally permissible as Rwanda is considered a safe country for them.

In November, the UK Supreme Court declared the government's plan to deport illegal migrants to Rwanda illegal. The judges established that Rwanda is not a safe country for refugees, making the deportation of illegal migrants there illegal.

Migration Minister Robert Jenrick previously resigned due to disagreements with the government's migration policy and conflicts with the prime minister. He explained his resignation by saying that the relocation bill had «gone too far».
