According to ТСН: The Russian armed forces regularly execute Ukrainian soldiers, and their command actively encourages these horrific actions among their soldiers.

Statements from the regiment commander

This was stated by the commander of the 225th Separate Assault Regiment, Hero of Ukraine Oleg Shyriaev, in an interview.

Shyriaev noted that his colleagues often intercepted communications in which Russian commanders gave orders to kill Ukrainian soldiers who had been captured.

Evidence of war crimes

Observers of combat operations report an increase in the number of evidence of war crimes in recent months. Videos made by Russian soldiers or Ukrainian drones demonstrate how Ukrainian soldiers are lined up and shot after surrendering.

In one of the videos shot by a drone, a Russian soldier is seen shooting at four unarmed men lying on the ground, then aiming at another who is trying to crawl away.

Military command accountability

Shyriaev also accused Putin, claiming he ordered to stop the capture of prisoners of war to demoralize the Ukrainian population.

“The number of executions is increasing, and this is happening along all fronts,” our military said. “For the Russians, there are no red lines.”
“In the recordings we intercept, we regularly hear their military leadership issuing orders to execute our soldiers who are attempting to surrender. I would say this practice has become systematic over the past year and a half. They are showing the entire civilized world that they can do this with impunity,” Shyriaev added.

Execution statistics

The Office of the Prosecutor General confirmed that 147 Ukrainian prisoners of war have been executed by Russian forces since the onset of the full-scale invasion in 2022, of which 127 occurred this year.

“The upward trend is very clear, very obvious. Unfortunately, the number of executions has particularly increased this summer and autumn. This indicates that these are not isolated cases. They are occurring over vast territories and show clear signs of being part of a policy,” stated Yuriy Belyousov, head of the War Department of the Prosecutor General's Office responsible for investigating Russian war crimes.

Recent cases

We recall that on December 27, Russians executed two Ukrainian defenders in the Pokrovsk district. Before the execution, the occupiers forced one of the fighters to undress, after which they opened fire on the unarmed captives.

Russian soldiers also executed three Ukrainian fighters who were captured on December 20 south of Hulyaipole in Zaporizhzhia.

These horrific facts attest to the systematic violations of international humanitarian law by Russian soldiers, as well as attempts to intimidate the Ukrainian population. The increase in war crimes raises questions for the international community regarding the need for further action to hold the guilty accountable.
