The Advisor to the President of the European Commission Urged the Population of Europe to Prepare Food in Case of War with Russia.
The population of the European Union was urged to stock up on food in case of war or other emergencies. This recommendation is contained in the EU preparedness report, prepared by the advisor to the President of the European Commission and former President of Finland Sauli Niinistö. This is reported by Newsweek.
The report indicates that the EU was not ready for either the COVID-19 pandemic or the Russian aggression against Ukraine and, therefore, needs to transition to "proactive preparedness".
According to the strategy, the EU recommends households to prepare for self-sufficiency for the first 72 hours in case of an emergency. Member states should also provide citizens with recommendations on stocks, evacuation, and access to emergency services.
A survey conducted within the framework of the report showed that EU citizens should consider creating long-term stocks and have water, medicines, flashlights, batteries, and a portable radio receiver.
These recommendations aim to prepare EU citizens for various emergencies - from pandemics to extreme weather conditions and armed aggression.
The report states that although Russian aggression is not the only possible threat, it is the main one. "We do not have a clear plan on what the EU will do in case of armed aggression against a member country. The threat of war from Russia makes us consider this as a central element of our preparedness," the report states.
It is noted that any actions by Russia against an EU member country will affect all 27 countries of the bloc.
The report also notes that empowering citizens should become the basis of the preparedness strategy, and the EU should increase the budget for security and crisis response, as well as enhance intelligence sharing between member states of the Union.
The 165-page report was presented to the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen earlier this week.
It is also worth noting that the residents of Europe are increasingly facing serious difficulties. This is evidenced by a new study by Eurostat.
Earlier, it was reported that last year, migration to the European Union countries contributed to the growth of the total population, even with a high mortality rate.
