Ukraine's War Damage Register Now Accepts Claims from Citizens Forced to Flee Abroad.
New Claim Category A1.2 Launched
According to UATV: The Register of Damage for Ukraine has introduced a new claim category, A1.2, titled 'Forced Displacement Outside of Ukraine'. This category is for Ukrainians compelled to leave their country due to Russia's aggression, which began on February 24, 2022. The launch of this new category on February 23, 2023, enables citizens to file for compensation related to their forced displacement. This registry is a key international mechanism for documenting losses from the war.
Compensation for Those Affected
Since the war's outset, Ukrainians have been able to submit claims for compensation linked to forced displacement, a critical step in supporting individuals facing hardship from the conflict. The Register has already received 100,000 claims from individuals seeking redress for damages inflicted by Russian aggression. This significant volume highlights the widespread impact of the invasion on civilian life.
It is worth noting that in March 2025, the Register previously opened category A1.1, 'Forced Internal Displacement', demonstrating its ongoing work to support those suffering war-related hardships. The new A1.2 category represents a further step in aiding Ukrainians seeking avenues for damage compensation, specifically those who had to seek refuge beyond the nation's borders.
The addition of this new claim category underscores the importance of providing aid to Ukrainians affected by the war's consequences. This initiative not only supports those forced to leave their country but is also part of a broader strategy for the recovery and rehabilitation of a population that has endured severe difficulties. The high number of applications suggests a sustained and urgent need for such compensation, pointing to the conflict's long-term societal impact.
