Oleh Rybachuk Shares Insights on Roman Abramovich’s Involvement in Negotiations
According to Espreso.tv: Oleh Rybachuk, head of the NGO 'Center for Joint Actions' and a former Ukrainian deputy prime minister for European integration, has offered his perspective on Russian tycoon Roman Abramovich’s part in the Russia-Ukraine talks. In an interview, he discussed Russian President Vladimir Putin’s tactics and Ukraine’s stance amid the ongoing war. This commentary comes as diplomatic channels remain active despite the full-scale conflict.
On June 7, the Kremlin disclosed what it called 'closed contacts' between Russia and Ukraine. The following day, June 8, Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed that Abramovich had traveled to Kyiv during the full-scale invasion. Rybachuk stated that Putin was seeking to determine Zelenskyy’s true position, remarking that
“Putin was trying to verify what Zelenskyy’s real stance was”.
Ukraine’s Firm Stance and Russia’s Ongoing Activity
Rybachuk highlighted a key point regarding Ukraine’s position. He stressed that
“But Zelenskyy made it clear we will not give up territory”. This underscores the unwavering commitment of Ukraine’s leadership to the country’s territorial integrity. Additionally, Rybachuk noted that 'Putin is showing he is not in isolation,' which may indicate Russia’s continued efforts on the global stage despite the war.
Rybachuk’s remarks underscore the significance of diplomatic engagement in the context of the Ukraine-Russia war. Ukraine’s steadfast focus on territorial integrity remains a core priority likely to shape future negotiations. Meanwhile, Russia’s international activity suggests the Kremlin is striving to restore its influence and maintain connections, even as the war carries severe repercussions.
