Ukrainian military killed Major General of the Russian Federation Pavel Klimenko, who commanded the fifth separate motorized rifle brigade.

According to investigations by Russian journalists, Klimenko organized a concentration camp for Russian servicemen at the abandoned Petrovskaya mine in Donetsk. Servicemen who ended up in this camp were subjected to torture and forced to pay wages to commanders for injuries. The severely wounded were forced to go on assaults.

Relatives of soldiers who served in Klimenko's brigade rejoiced at his death. They left numerous negative comments about Klimenko. The administrators of the pro-Russian group «Donbas - the heart of Russia!», where information about Klimenko's death was published, initially deleted the post but then did it again.

The wife of one of the soldiers said that her husband was sent to assault after he returned to the brigade after a concussion. According to her, her husband spoke of the harsh orders in the brigade: the wounded were sent into assaults due to heavy losses, and those who refused were kept locked with minimal food and intimidated with guns.

Klimenko was a resident of the Stavropol region. Before the invasion of Ukraine, he served in occupied Crimea. In May 2024, he received the rank of major general.

Russian journalists reported that four fighters of Klimenko's brigade are under investigation in the case of the murder of American propagandist Russell Bentley, which occurred in Donetsk. In January of this year, the preliminary investigation of this case was completed. Four Russian military personnel were charged with brutal violence and attempting to cover up traces of the murder.
