iPhone 17 Pro Max is being massively imported into Gaza: who is buying expensive smartphones amid a humanitarian crisis.
According to ТСН: Against the backdrop of a serious shortage of food, medicine, and building materials in Gaza, after a prolonged blockade, large batches of iPhone 17 Pro Max have unexpectedly started appearing.
In the Nuseirat camp, shop owner Mohammed Zakul confirms the 'incredible demand' for the new Apple devices, even though most families live in tents and rely on humanitarian aid.
According to him, several dozen batches have already arrived in the region, each containing more than 10,000 phones.
Main buyers:
Traders and their families who were able to improve their financial situation due to the war (land rentals, military business).
Employees of international organizations with high salaries.
Public activists and founders of initiatives.
The father of sisters Raghad (21) and Tala (18), who proudly display their new iPhones, spent $4,500 on them. Raghad notes that people around them look at them with disbelief, and comments have started appearing on Instagram:
“How can people in a war zone have the latest phone in the world?”
The emergence of expensive smartphones has raised concerns among journalists and researchers. Journalist Hamza Al Shobaki described the situation as
“absurd”.
In the context of a humanitarian crisis, the supply of expensive goods, such as the iPhone, raises numerous questions about priorities and economic realities in the region. It highlights the contrast between the lives of the majority of the population and the opportunities of a few who are experiencing these difficult times in new, shimmering realities.
