Ruben Amorim’s dismal Man Utd record laid bare with just SEVEN league wins in 300 days and humiliating Grimsby defeat.
Ruben Amorim's Dismal Record
According to The Sun: Ruben Amorim is experiencing tough times as the manager of Manchester United following a humiliating defeat to Grimsby. The Red Devils have exited the Carabao Cup for the sixth time, losing to a League Two side.
Grimsby quickly took control, scoring two goals. Manchester United tried to change the game in the second half by bringing on Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes, but the hosts held firm in a tense penalty shootout, celebrating victory 12-11 and fan invasion onto the pitch.
This defeat marks a new low in Amorim's career, who took over the club last November, implementing a new 3-4-3 tactic and promising ideas. But 300 days after his first game, his record remains unsatisfactory.
The first match ended in a 1-1 draw with Ipswich. Although Amorim recorded two consecutive victories in European competitions and the league, his team faced failures against Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.
After an unexpected win against Manchester City, the team suffered four consecutive losses. Amorim has yet to stabilize the situation as fluctuating results have become a constant throughout the season.
The team finished in 15th place, suffering a morale defeat in the Europa League final against Tottenham. Despite disappointing results, Amorim received support during the summer transfer window, with the club spending 200 million on new attacking players.
However, after three matches, the team has yet to win a game, starting the campaign with a loss to Arsenal and a draw with Fulham.
Under Amorim's management, the team won only seven matches in the Premier League and 17 out of 45 in all competitions. Nine of those matches ended in draws, while 19 were losses.
Dissatisfaction
Even though it was a Carabao Cup match, the loss to Grimsby deeply affected Amorim.
“Everything went wrong. The way we started the game, we didn't show up at all. When everything is so important at our club, what happened is a problem for our club. We should have played much better. I just have to apologize to our fans. I feel that my players clearly made it known what they want today. I think it’s easy to understand.”
“In the penalty shootout, the feeling was the same, football was fair today, the best team won. It’s more than just a result, it’s the biggest problem in the team, I think it was really obvious today.”
“I have nothing to say, that's also the biggest problem. To see the same mistakes and having nothing to say, I feel very sorry for our fans. You can’t change so much in one summer period, you need to win matches. I think some things need to change.”
In light of this poor start to the season, questions about Ruben Amorim’s future at Manchester United are becoming increasingly pertinent. It remains to be seen how the club will respond to his results and what awaits the team in their upcoming matches. Fans are curious if the coach can turn things around and get the team back on a winning path.
