Romania’s Investment in a Shared Drone Manufacturing Venture with Ukraine
According to UATV: Romania is committing €200 million to a collaborative drone production initiative with Ukraine. Defense Minister Radu Miruță made the announcement on his Facebook page, highlighting the strategic significance of the project for both nations. The contract is expected to be signed by the end of May.
As part of the effort, 15 Ukrainian suppliers of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are ready to present their proposals to Romanian military officials. This reflects deepening cooperation between Kyiv and Bucharest in defense technology.
“This isn’t just about purchases—it’s about the opportunity to manufacture cutting-edge technology in Romania, with know-how transfer and a continuous cycle of innovation.”
Radu Miruță
The initiative underscores a strategic push to strengthen regional defense industry capabilities and advance the technology used in unmanned systems.
New Horizons for Security Collaboration
By investing in joint drone production with Ukraine, Romania is opening up fresh avenues for security and defense cooperation.
This agreement marks a significant step in fortifying defense ties between the two countries, especially amid growing regional threats. The joint manufacturing of drones will not only bolster the defensive capacities of both nations but also drive technological advancements that could be applied across other industrial sectors.
As neighboring countries, Romania and Ukraine share common interests in ensuring stability and security in Eastern Europe, making this initiative particularly timely and relevant.
