Sheffield Wednesday allowed to urgently sign a goalkeeper: reason and details

According to The Sun: SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY received permission to temporarily conclude an agreement after their only goalkeeper, Pierce Charles, suffered an injury.

SHEFFIELD WEDNESDAY will ask the EFL for a temporary transfer due to the injury of Pierce Charles, their only 'professional' goalkeeper

The 20-year-old rookie sustained a shoulder injury and although it was predicted he would be out for several weeks. With no other 'professional level' goalkeepers and considering that the club is under transfer amnesty, the Wednesday team has reached out to the EFL management.

They have goalkeepers Logan Stretch, 18, and Killian Barrett, 21, on their roster - but as neither has played at least five matches in the first team at League 2 level or higher, they are not considered professional goalkeepers.

The EFL regulations allow for an agreement with a goalkeeper for only seven days, but this agreement can be extended until Pierce Charles is deemed unfit to play by an independent doctor.

Coach of the 'Owls' Henrik Pedersen commented on this situation

'We do not yet know how long he will be absent, but this is certainly not very good news as he is playing for us at such a high level,' he said.

'We have permission to sign a goalkeeper and for the last few days we have been working on finding a solution in case this happens.

'So I hope we will have a solution very soon.

Owner Dejfon Chansiri promises to resolve the club's financial difficulties

'We are doing everything we can to keep him here, so after the transfer window closes, Pierce will be part of Sheffield Wednesday,' Pedersen noted.

'If the signed goalkeeper on a temporary basis is recalled by his parent club, and if Wednesday has no 'professional goalkeeper', they will be able to get another one.

Pierce Charles suffered an injury that forced Sheffield Wednesday to look for a temporary solution regarding a goalkeeper. The club reached out to the EFL management for permission to conclude an agreement with a new goalkeeper as they have no other professionals in their team. The duration of Charles' absence is still unknown, but Wednesday plans to find a solution quickly.
