According to The Sun: Sir Jim Ratcliff believes that Ruben Amorim may be given up to two years to prove his effectiveness at 'Manchester United'.

The club's co-owner, Ratcliff, acknowledged that Amorim, who is currently under immense pressure, is having a 'not-so-great season' as the team has suffered three losses in seven Premier League matches. He also stated that the Glazer family will not demand his dismissal.

Amorim took over Manchester United in November last year.

Ruben signed a contract until June 2027, but has only won 19 out of 50 games at the helm of the club; the team has gathered 37 points in 34 league matches.

Comments from Ratcliff

Ratcliff also pointed out that Amorim, who was appointed in November, is going through a third of the three-year project.

“He is not having a great season. Ruben needs to prove he is a great coach in three years. That's the point I'm at,” Ratcliff said.

In hopes of controlling football operations through the Ineos group, Ratcliff emphasized that the Glazer owners will not try to pressure him into firing Amorim.

“That will not happen. We are local, and they (the Glazers) are on the other side of the ocean. It is very far away to run a football club of this magnitude like Manchester United,” he added.

Ratcliff also expressed his dissatisfaction with the media coverage regarding the club's situation, which is currently in tenth place in the Premier League table.

Amorim's Statistics

Record of Ruben Amorim at United

Matches – 50

Wins – 21

Draws – 9

Losses – 20

Win Rate – 40%

Highest Win – 4:0 against Everton, December 2024

“Media, sometimes I don’t understand,” Ratcliff lamented.
“They want success overnight. They think it's a switch. You push the button and tomorrow everything will be great,” he added.

Ratcliff, who joined United just before Christmas 2023, has already faced criticism from fans and club staff.

Recently, he conducted two rounds of staff cuts, increased ticket prices, and moved long-time season ticket holders from the Sir Bobby Charlton stand to make room for business interests.

Some fans confronted Ratcliff in January at Fulham's stadium, where he was heckled after watching a game in which the team narrowly won 1:0.

“I would compare the process at United to assembling a Formula 1 car, and I believe we will become 'the most profitable club in the world',” Ratcliff remarked.
“The spending has been too high. There are great people at Manchester United, but there is also a certain mediocrity, and the situation has become overloaded,” he added.
“The club needs to be put on a sustainable and healthy path. Looking at our results from last year, we generated the highest revenue in history. Profitability is the second highest in history,” he concluded.
“I am convinced that Manchester United will become the most profitable football club in the world, and I believe that from this will emerge a solid long-term football level for us,” he said in closing.
Ratcliff also expressed support for the Glazers, who have owned the club for over 20 years: “They have a bad reputation, but in reality, they are very good people who really care about the club,” he stated.
Thus, Ratcliff underscores his support for Ruben Amorim amid difficult times for 'Manchester United'. In light of the team's unstable results, the co-owner believes the coach has the opportunity to prove his abilities by the next contract. At the same time, criticism from fans and the media could influence further decisions regarding the development of the club.
