The jeans of Magnus Carlsen, which caused a scandal at the World Chess Championship, were sold at auction. The buyer, who placed the highest bid, wished to remain anonymous. All proceeds will be donated to help children through the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization.

Recall that the International Chess Federation (FIDE) did not allow Carlsen to participate in the ninth round of the 2024 rapid championship last December due to his jeans being unsuitable for play according to the dress code. He was disqualified from the competition, but was later allowed to continue participating in the tournament. Ultimately, he shared the victory with Ian Nepomniachtchi.

FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich stated that the federation will review the dress code rules for the World Blitz Championship after this incident.

The World Champion Boris Spassky has died

On February 27, Soviet and French grandmaster Boris Spassky, who became the tenth world champion in the history of chess, passed away. He won this title in 1969 and held it until 1972.
