How many hours will power outages last in the fall and winter: statement by the Energy Research Center.
The duration of power outages in the fall and winter will depend on weather conditions, according to the information from the director of the Energy Research Center, Oleksandr Kharchenko. If there is frost, the clocks will show 14-16 hours per day. "Everything will depend on the temperatures. If they range from 0 to +5, the clocks will show a limit of 2-4 hours. If the temperatures are between -10 to -15, especially over two weeks, the outages will last 14-16 hours per day," - noted Kharchenko.
Therefore, everything significantly depends on what attacks will occur, where they will be directed, and how successful they will be, as well as the specific weather conditions in the winter.
The duration of power outages may also be affected by Russian attacks. The forecast by the UN Human Rights Monitoring Mission in Ukraine (HRMMU) predicts power outages ranging from 4 to 18 hours per day this winter.
Government officials claim that there will be no problems with power supply in October and November. They hope that this year, the winter will pass without outages, as it did last year.
The State Agency for Restoration and Development of Infrastructure has begun the construction of the third level of passive protection at the substations of NPC "Ukrenergo", but international partners do not see the feasibility of funding such an expensive project until the technology has been tested. Previously, the former head of "Ukrenergo", Volodymyr Kudrytskyi, reported that Ukraine's energy facilities would have three levels of protection in the form of engineering fortifications in case of Russian attacks.
Additionally, the European Commission is increasing the supply of electricity to Ukraine. The G7 countries and other partners have raised over $4 billion for the restoration of Ukraine's energy infrastructure after Russia's invasion.
