Interior ministers of EU countries are considering the possibility of returning Syrian refugees to their homeland. EU Commissioner Magnus Brunner claims that such a return is the most desirable option. His Austrian colleague Gerhard Karner supports this view and emphasizes the need to prepare for returns and deportations. Karner warns that work on this issue should begin now.

The German Interior Minister, Nancy Faeser, believes that before making a decision, it is essential to be aware of the situation of the Syrian people. She also highlights the significant contribution of refugees to the development of Germany, especially in the healthcare sector.

Germany has accepted the highest number of refugees from Syria among EU countries. However, some people are calling for their return to their homeland. The German Federal Office for Migration and Refugees has temporarily suspended the processing of asylum applications due to the unstable situation in Syria. Austria has also halted the processing of similar applications.

According to the UN, Turkey has accepted the highest number of Syrian refugees, while the largest number of them in the European Union is found in Germany.
