British and French fighters struck ISIL bunkers in Syria.
According to ТСН: On the evening of January 3, British and French fighters conducted strikes on the underground infrastructure of the terrorist organization 'Islamic State' (ISIL). Western allies continue their efforts to prevent the resurgence of ISIL after its military defeat in 2019.
The details of the joint operation were reported by the UK Ministry of Defence.
Operation Details
On January 3, British fighters Typhoon FGR4, supported by the Voyager refueling aircraft, joined forces with French aviation to carry out a coordinated strike.
Intelligence identified an underground terrorist facility in the mountains located a few miles north of the ancient city of Palmyra.
'This facility was occupied by ISIL, most likely for storing weapons and explosives,' the department's statement said.
To hit the target, the pilots used precision-guided bombs Paveway IV, hitting the entrance tunnels of the bunker. According to preliminary data, the target was successfully destroyed. The military emphasizes that the strike area was uninhabited, so civilians were not at risk.
Signal of Resolve
UK Defence Secretary Ben Wallace considers this operation a confirmation of the leadership of the United Kingdom and unity with allies.
'This action demonstrates... our determination to stand shoulder to shoulder with our allies to eradicate any resurgence of ISIL and their dangerous ideology in the Middle East,' the minister stated.
It is worth noting that at the end of December, the United States conducted a powerful strike against ISIL in Syria in response to the deaths of two American soldiers and a translator in the central part of the country.
This joint operation by the United Kingdom and France underscores the continuing threat posed by ISIL, as well as the determination of Western allies to counter terrorism. In the context of instability in the Middle East, such actions demonstrate the military's commitment to maintaining peace and security in the region.
