US intelligence officials claim that Iran is responsible for hacking the computers of the election headquarters of presidential candidates Donald Trump, Kamala Harris, and former candidate Joe Biden.

According to AP, although investigators from the Trump campaign and the private cybersecurity sector had previously stated that Iran was behind the attacks, the US government is blaming the country for the first Time.

In a joint statement, the FBI and other federal agencies noted that Iran "sought to gain access to individuals who had direct access to the presidential campaign of both political parties".

The aim of the attacks was not only to sow discord but also to influence the election results, which Iran considers "particularly important from the standpoint of its own national security".

"We are seeing increasingly aggressive Iranian activity during this election cycle, particularly in influence operations targeting the American public and cyber operations against presidential campaigns," the intelligence statement said.
