America suspends visa issuance to Colombian officials

Secretary of State Marco Rubio has decided to stop issuing American visas to officials from Colombia, who refused to accept flights carrying deported migrants.

'After President (of Colombia - ed.) Petro refused to accept two repatriation flights that he had previously agreed to, Secretary of State Rubio ordered an immediate suspension of visa issuance at the consular section of the US embassy in Bogotá,' the statement said.

Travel restrictions to the US will apply to Colombian officials and officials who, according to the American side, are responsible for refusing to accept flights with deported migrants. This decision also applies to the family members of such officials.

The statement emphasizes that visas will not be issued until Colombia fulfills its obligations to accept its citizens who have been deported from the United States.

'The State Department will continue to ensure the implementation of the 'America First' program and will not back down when it comes to protecting national interests,' said the American department.

They also reminded that according to American legislation, the Secretary of State can prohibit any foreigner from entering the United States if their presence in the country 'could have serious negative foreign policy consequences for America.'
