Operation announced in response to the attack

US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced that this operation is a response to the recent attack on American forces near Palmyra.

“Today, the US Armed Forces have launched Operation 'Hawks' Strike' in Syria. Its goal is to destroy ISIS militants, their bases, logistics, and weapons warehouses,” he said.

Not a new war, but an act of revenge

Hegseth emphasized that the actions of the United States do not mark the beginning of a new war, but serve as an 'act of retribution.'

“This is not the start of a war — it is a declaration of revenge. The United States of America, under President Trump's leadership, will never hesitate or retreat when it comes to defending our people,” he noted.

The Minister also added that Washington would respond firmly to any attacks on American citizens around the world.

“We stated this immediately after the brutal attack: if you attack Americans — wherever it may happen — the rest of your short life will be spent with the realization that the United States will find you and destroy you ruthlessly,” Hegseth stressed.

Elimination of militants

According to official data, a significant number of militants were eliminated during the operation, and air and missile strikes will continue. The Central Command of the US Armed Forces confirmed that the attacks are aimed at ISIS infrastructure and warehouses.

“American forces have launched a large-scale attack on ISIS infrastructure and weapons warehouses in Syria. The massive strike was a response to the attack on US forces and their partners on December 13,” the statement said.

US President Donald Trump earlier stated that after the attack in Syria, which resulted in the deaths of two American servicemen and one civilian, there would be a 'very serious response.'
