In Ivano-Frankivsk, representatives of public organizations – the city «Prosvita» and several youth associations decided to become language inspectors. This was reported by the city mayor Ruslan Martsinkiv.

According to him, the city «Prosvita» and several youth organizations have already joined this initiative. Detailed regulations about public activists will be adopted this Friday. Registration of new participants will start on Monday by filling out questionnaires.

Martsinkiv also commented on the remarks of the Commissioner for the Protection of the State Language Taras Kremin regarding external advertising in foreign languages. He noted that the municipal inspection monitors compliance with the legislation, but will also consider any violations by other parties.

The head of the city society «Prosvita» Maria Hutsol reported that at least six members of the organization of different ages will join the language inspection.

Hutsol stated that «Prosvita» is joining this initiative because one of the main tasks of the organization is to preserve the Ukrainian language and its use. To this end, they will monitor the correct use of the Ukrainian language in all spheres of life. Maria Hutsol also noted that the title «language inspector» is not very accurate, but the main thing is to perform their duties.

Overall, 11 organizations will be part of the language inspection. This is one of the steps Ivano-Frankivsk is taking to combat the spread of the Russian language in the city. The mayor also called on citizens to enroll in language courses under the Memoriam Ukrainization Program of Iryna Farion.

According to language activist Larysa Nitsoi, the reason for the decline in the use of the state language among students is the lack of support from the authorities and errors in legislation.
