Ukrainians were told what fines threaten for driving a car while intoxicated.

The problem of drunk driving remains relevant for Ukraine. Despite the tightening of legislation and increased road control, some drivers still get behind the wheel after consuming alcohol, endangering themselves and others. However, one should not forget about the serious consequences of such irresponsible behavior.

Drivers should be reminded that from July 1, 2020, in accordance with Law No. 321-IX, criminal liability comes for drunk driving under Art. 286-1 of the Criminal Code.

So, if a driver is “caught” for the first Time, the fine will be 17,000 hryvnias with deprivation of driver's rights for up to one year.

If the offense is repeated, the amount of the punishment will double and amount to 34,000 hryvnias. Also added is the deprivation of driving rights for up to three years and confiscation of the vehicle.

For the next violation, the driver faces severe punishment: a monetary fine of 51,000 hryvnias, confiscation of the vehicle, and a ban on driving a car for ten years.

If a drunk driver becomes the culprit of a traffic accident, he will have to pay a fine of 34,000 hryvnias and lose his driving rights for up to three years.

In the case where the actions of a drunk driver lead to the death of a person or the infliction of serious bodily harm, criminal punishment is foreseen. The culprit faces imprisonment for a term of three to eight years. Additionally, the court may prohibit the operation of vehicles for up to three years.

We remind you that Poland changed the rules for Ukrainian drivers from September 10.
