Bronze medalist of the Olympics in Greco-Roman wrestling in the weight category up to 87 kg Zhan Belenyuk explained why another Ukrainian Greco-Roman style wrestler Parviz Nasibov did not win Olympic gold.

“Nasibov not only could, but should have taken “gold”. These are just unfortunate circumstances related to judicial behavior. Parviz should have become the champion. I know that he dreamed of a gold medal, and it is very unfortunate that this happened. Nasibov showed phenomenal wrestling, “snatched” victories in the last seconds, he has very pronounced fighting qualities and fights to the end. Nasibov was the best at this tournament and the fact that he received the “silver” is a good result, but it should have been “gold”, – said Belenyuk in an interview with sport-express.ua.

Nasibov in the final of the 2024 Olympics lost to the representative of Iran Saeid Esmaeili Leivesi – 6:5.

At the end of the bout, Parviz tried to make a move to score points, but the opponent counterattacked. Nasibov's coaches demanded a replay, believing that at that moment the Iranian violated the rules. But the judges made a rather dubious decision and awarded the points to Saeid.

Let us remind you that in the round of 16 match, Nasibov in the last ten seconds went behind the back of the Serbian opponent, the fourth seed Mate Nemeš, and won with a score of 3:2.

In the quarterfinals, the Ukrainian faced the stubborn Kyrgyz Amantur Ismailov and even lost 2:6. But five consecutive push-outs by Nasibov, each evaluated at one point, brought the result in the form of a 7:6 victory.

In the semifinals, Nasibov sensationally defeated the top-seeded from Azerbaijan, Hasrat Jafarov. The bout ended with a score of 3:3, but Parviz made the last effective move, and thus he won.

Let us remind you that the Summer Olympic Games are held in the capital of France, Paris, and 16 other cities in the entire European part of France, as well as in Tahiti – an island that is part of France's overseas country and overseas collectivite French Polynesia. At these Olympic Games, breakdancing will debut as an Olympic sport, and they are expected to be the last Olympic Games held under the presidency of IOC President Thomas Bach.

The 2024 Games are the first to have an equal number of male and female athletes. The Games are expected to cost 8.3 billion euros.

The opening ceremony began at 19:30 on July 26, 2024. This was the second Time in history that the opening of the Olympic Games took place outside the stadium (the first was the opening ceremony of the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games).

The parade of nations took place as part of a boat parade on the Seine from the Austerlitz Bridge to the Seine Bridge, and the official protocol took place at the Trocadero Square in a temporary “mini-stadium”. The 6-kilometer (3.7-mile) parade route showcased cultural elements of the ceremony and views of Parisian landmarks.

The director of the 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games ceremony was director Thoma Jolly.
