Circumstances of the incident

According to The Daily Telegraph, the shooting occurred near the intersection of Annaluke St and Riverbrae Ave in the Riverstone area.

The incident happened around 6 PM local time on Wednesday. Despite the efforts of paramedics, Mokhtarian did not survive.

“We believe that he may have been out for a walk, but we still need to confirm this,” said Riverstone Police Commander Jason Joyce.

He added: “One would like to think that in such a residential area people can freely walk at this time of night and be safe, but we believe this was a targeted attack.”

Previous incidents

It is known that Mokhtarian was previously shot at the Australian Top Team gym in February last year. Following that incident, he canceled a scheduled MMA event due to fears of a repeat attack.

Mokhtarian's last fight in the UFC was six years ago against Choi Seung-woo, in which he lost by unanimous decision. Overall, his UFC record stands at 8 wins and 2 losses.

The tragedy involving Mokhtarian once again highlights how important safety issues are, even in places we consider familiar. His death is a great loss for the sports community and for friends and family who will remember his contribution to the world of mixed martial arts.
