Switzerland is set to change its foreign and defense policy, which is based on neutrality. A security expert group created by the Ministry of Defense recommends the country deepen cooperation with NATO and the European Union. Such recommendations were made after Switzerland came under pressure due to its position on the conflict in eastern Ukraine.
The report, while not calling for joining NATO or abandoning neutrality, recommends strengthening cooperation with the alliance, increasing military spending to 1% of GDP, and lifting the ban on re-exporting weapons. Current restrictions on arms exports have led to a 27% decrease in sales, harming relations with other countries wishing to supply weapons to Ukraine.
