World Record - The Longest Lightning Bolt Recorded in the USA.
Phenomenon in the Sky Over the USA
In the USA, a lightning bolt measuring 829 kilometers was recorded. This figure is a record, as usually, the length of lightning does not exceed 16 kilometers.
This was reported by the publication Space.
The record lightning spanned five states from Missouri to Texas. It was visible in the sky for seven seconds. The previous record was set in 2020: at that time, the lightning was 61 kilometers shorter than the one seen now. This phenomenon is called megaflashes and occurs during prolonged thunderstorms.
The new record was captured by scientists using satellites, including the American GOES-16, which is equipped with a special lightning mapping tool.
It is worth noting that meteorologists have predicted what the weather will be like in August. Temperature readings will exceed the climatic norm.
We also reported that on August 1, a number of regions will experience abnormal heat. Thermometers could rise to +32 °C in some places.
