Wladimir Jaworowski

Date of Birth: 11.10.1942

Place of Birth. Education. Born in the village of Teklivka in the Kryzhopil District of Vinnytsia Oblast into a peasant family.

In 1964, he graduated from Odesa State University I. Mechnikov with a degree in Ukrainian language and literature teaching.

Career. Over various years, he worked as an editor at Odesa Radio, correspondent and literary editor for publications such as Zaporizhzhia Pravda, Znamya yunosti, Leninska molod, and Zaporizhzhia Radio, scriptwriter for Lviv Television, literary advisor and referent of the Union of Writers of the USSR, head of the Prose Department and deputy editor-in-chief of the magazine 'Vitchyzna'.

He was a co-founder of Ukraine's People's Movement and led the Kyiv organization of this movement.

From 1989 to 1991, he was a deputy in the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.

From 1990 to 1994, he was a deputy in the Supreme Council of Ukraine of the I convocation. A member of the commission for the consequences of the Chernobyl disaster.

From 1994 to 1998, he was a deputy in the Supreme Council of Ukraine in the II convocation. Chairman of the Democratic Party of Ukraine (1990-1999). A member of the parliamentary groups 'State Power' and 'Constitutional Center'. Chairman of the Subcommittee on Relations with Citizens Abroad, the Human Rights and Minority Committee of the Verkhovna Rada.

In 1998, Jaworowski ran unsuccessfully for the Verkhovna Rada elections on the list of the Democratic Party Block - NAD (he was in 1st place).

From 1996 to 1999, he headed the Committee for the State Awards of Ukraine I. Shevchenko and was then a member of the committee for two more years. He was a member of the Language Policy Council under the President of Ukraine, Leonid Kuchma.

From 2002 to 2006, he was a deputy in the Supreme Council of Ukraine of the IV convocation (in the elections he was fixed by the Viktor Yushchenko Block 'Our Ukraine' and was a member of Viktor Pinzenyk's party, Reforms and Order). Deputy chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Freedom of Speech and Information.

In the 2004 presidential elections, Jaworowski was actively involved in supporting the opposition candidate Yushchenko and participated in the 'Orange Revolution'. Until September 2005, he was a member of the Our Ukraine faction. He was a member of the political council of the presidential party People's Union 'Our Ukraine'. After the resignation of Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, he switched to the Reforms and Order faction. From December 2005, he was a member of the faction of Yulia Tymoshenko's Bloc.

From 2006 to 2007, he was a deputy in the Supreme Council of Ukraine of the V convocation from BYuT (22nd place on the list). Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Culture and Spirituality.

From November 2007 to December 2012, he was a deputy in the Supreme Council of Ukraine of the VI convocation from BYuT (22nd place on the list). Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Culture and Spirituality. A member of the All-Ukrainian Union 'Fatherland' party.

From December 2012 to November 2014, he was a deputy in the Supreme Council of Ukraine of the VII convocation from Batkivshchyna (he ran in single-member constituency No. 213 in Kyiv). Member of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Culture and Spirituality.

After the early elections to the Verkhovna Rada on October 26, 2014, Wladimir Jaworowski was not elected to the Verkhovna Rada of the VIII convocation, he took only 4th place in the 213th single-member constituency (received 13.72% of the votes).

In 2001 and 2006, he was twice elected chairman of the National Union of Writers of Ukraine.

Works. Jaworowski is the author of short stories and collections of stories 'And the Apples Fall...' (1968), 'Ripening Grapes' (1971), 'From the Heights in September' (1984), 'Wolf's House' (2000), publications 'Wings, Pointed to Heaven' (1975), 'Here, on Earth' (1977), 'And in the Sea the Memory of the Source' (1980), 'The Right to One's Own Name' (1985), 'What Kind of People Are We?' (2001), novels 'Chain Reaction' (1978), 'Views from Autumn' (1979), 'Self-Portrait from Imagination' (1981), 'And Now - Go' (1983), 'Maria with Mugwort at the End of the Century', 'Crisis'.

Awards. He was awarded the Order 'For Merits' III class (2005). Winner of the State Prize of Ukraine I. Shevchenko for the story 'Eternal Kortelisi' (1984).

Family. The politician is married. Wife Halyna Oleksandrivna (born 1946) - actress of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine. Son Sviatoslav (born 1968) - journalist, editor of the party newspaper 'Our Ukraine' in Lviv. Daughter Lesia (born 1978) - employee of the television channel Novyi Kanal.

Death. On April 17, 2021, Wladimir Jaworowski passed away at the age of 79.
